Paver calculator

Pavers for a patio, walk, or driveway area — any rectangular unit size, cut waste included.

Loading calculators…

How it’s computed

Pavers = ceil(area × (1 + waste) ÷ paver face), where face = (length in × width in) ÷ 144 sqft. Defaults: 6×6 paver, 5% waste. For a rectangular area, pass length × width as the area.

Decimal-exact and deterministic: identical inputs always return identical results. This is the same math Ask Donnie’s estimating engine runs — not an approximation, and never a language model doing arithmetic.

Common questions

Herringbone or running bond?

Patterned lays cut more at the borders — raise the waste input above the 5% default, especially on narrow walks where edges dominate.

How much base do I need under them?

Use the gravel calculator with your bedding + base depth for the volume; base depth itself depends on soil and traffic — follow your paver manufacturer's guidance.
