Gravel / fill / excavation calculator
Cubic yards of gravel, sand, fill, topsoil — or the dirt coming out of a dig. Same geometry either direction.

How it’s computed
Volume = length (ft) × width (ft) × (depth in ÷ 12) ÷ 27, quantized to 0.01 cy. This is exact geometric (bank) volume.
Decimal-exact and deterministic: identical inputs always return identical results. This is the same math Ask Donnie’s estimating engine runs — not an approximation, and never a language model doing arithmetic.
Common questions
Does this account for compaction?
No — it returns exact geometric volume. Compacted base places denser than it's delivered; as a reference, the slab takeoff calculator applies a 12% allowance on aggregate base. Ask your supplier what they recommend for your material.
My supplier sells by the ton.
Density varies by material and moisture, so there's no one honest conversion. Give your supplier the cubic yards from here and let them convert for the rock they're loading.

Need the whole estimate, not just this number?
Ask Donnie turns a description or a plan into a full itemized estimate — deterministic math, real cited pricing, an AACE accuracy class. Free to start, watermarked deliverables included.
