What is fascia?
Fascia is the vertical band that runs along the edge of a roof, capping the ends of the rafters or trusses and creating the surface that gutters attach to.
The fascia closes off the roof edge, supports the bottom course of roofing, and is where the gutters are typically mounted. Together with the soffit underneath, it finishes the eave.
Because it sits at the drip line, fascia takes a lot of water exposure, so it's usually protected by paint, a metal wrap, or a low-maintenance material to resist rot.
